As a software engineer for one of the biggest companies in the world, I was recruited by a smaller competitor to take on more challenging and rewarding projects. The offer was attractive, with more pay and better hours, but it would still mean commuting to a significantly different city. I decided against it, though - I would be closer to my family and friends at my current job. Plus, they were currently in need of engineers because their work had been outsourced abroad. But we wouldn't be hiring new employees until the company got back on track financially. The smaller company offered me more money and benefits before the end of the year, so I made the move with my family to stay ahead of this potential future trend in economics - that software engineering is a high demand profession.
